RLUSD, XRPL, and the Quiet Buildout of Real Settlement Infrastructure

Stablecoins are moving from crypto narrative into settlement infrastructure.

The latest Ripple and XRPL news is pointing in one direction: stablecoins are becoming settlement infrastructure.

Mastercard announced expanded settlement capabilities that include intraday, weekend, and holiday settlement, plus support for on-chain card settlement using regulated stablecoins. In that announcement, Mastercard listed Ripple’s RLUSD alongside other regulated stablecoins, and named XRPL among the supported blockchain networks.

This connects directly with Ripple’s earlier collaboration with Mastercard, WebBank, and Gemini, where the companies explored using RLUSD on the XRP Ledger to support stablecoin settlement of fiat card transactions. The important detail is not that every payment is instantly moving over XRPL today. The important detail is that regulated institutions are testing public blockchain settlement in places where speed, transparency, compliance, and finality matter.

RLUSD is also expanding across more blockchain environments through Wormhole’s Native Token Transfers. Reports describe RLUSD access across 40+ networks, including Ethereum layer-2s and the XRP Ledger EVM sidechain. For the XRPL ecosystem, this matters because liquidity becomes more useful when it can move between environments without being trapped in one app, one chain, or one narrow trading venue.

For XRPL LAB readers, the key takeaway is practical: stablecoins are not just tokens. In a real settlement environment, they become programmable dollars, liquidity rails, compliance surfaces, and accounting tools. XRPL’s role is strongest when the network stays boring, fast, cheap, and reliable.
